What's with the waffle?

In the book, What Kind of Bread Does a Monkey Eat?, you will see the dedication to all of the author's nieces and nephews and to the illustrator's daughter on the back of the title page. At the end of the author dedication there is a special note to Faith that states, "To Faith: There are no waffles in this book, or are there?". This refers to a game that the author plays with her niece when they visit; often, the author will draw a waffle somewhere for her niece to find later.
